The app
What is ROAM?
An iPhone app that maps great driving roads: 544 of them across all 50 states, each with a short story, directions and a place to mark it driven. Think of a hiking-trail app, for drivers.
When can I get it?
ROAM is coming soon to the App Store. Get notified or follow @roamdriving on Instagram.
Which phones does it work on?
iPhone. There's no Android version yet.
Does ROAM give turn-by-turn directions?
Get directions opens Apple Maps with the road's start, so you get Apple's turn-by-turn, voice and CarPlay.
Does it work without signal?
The roads and your progress are stored on your iPhone. The map itself needs a connection to load, so open the area you're heading to before you lose signal.
Is there a dark mode?
Yes. ROAM starts in dark mode; you can switch to light, or follow your iPhone, in Settings.
Free and ROAM Pass
Is ROAM free?
Yes, in your home state: every road and scenic spot there is free, and so is the whole map and Community. ROAM Pass opens every road, everywhere, for $3.99 a month after a free week.
How do I choose my free state?
It's the state of the first road or spot you open. You can change it in Settings once every 30 days.
How do I cancel ROAM Pass?
On your iPhone: Settings, your name, Subscriptions. Or in ROAM: Settings, ROAM Pass, Manage subscription.
Privacy
Do I need an account?
No. There's no sign-up, no login and no email. You can add a name, your car and a photo, but they stay on your iPhone.
Does ROAM track my location or my driving?
No. ROAM uses your location only while it's open, to show roads near you, and never saves or shares it. You mark roads yourself: ROAM doesn't record your drives. It works without location too.
How do I back up my roads?
In Settings, Export my data saves a small file (to Files or iCloud Drive, for example). Import my data brings it back, photo and all.
Roads and Community
How are roads chosen?
Each one is researched from public sources and traced along the real road on OpenStreetMap. For very long roads we use the best-known stretch.
What does "Sporty" mean?
Curves, climbs and rhythm. It describes the road, never a speed. ROAM is for finding great roads: drive within the law and your limits.
A road is wrong or missing. What do I do?
Tell us. Roads change, close for the season or reroute, and we'd rather fix it.
Can my club or meet be listed?
If it's real, active and welcomes drivers, yes. Suggest it here.
Will ROAM come to other countries?
Yes, one country at a time, starting after the US launch. ROAM Pass will cover them all.
